Järvikumpu Farm is set in a beautiful spot on the shore of Lake Ruuhijärvi in Pello, Finnish Lapland. It is about 90 km to Rovaniemi city centre and its international airport. The Swedish border and Pello village centre are about a 25-minute drive away (some 35 km). Pello village centre has the services families need: a day-care centre, a primary school, a lower secondary school and an upper secondary school. School transport is arranged for children from Ruuhijärvi. Pello also has a railway station.
The capital of Lapland, the dynamic city of Rovaniemi, is Finland’s leading international tourism city and an important university city. Rovaniemi International Airport, the second busiest airport in Finland, has direct flights to more than 35 cities across Europe, especially in winter. Being in a neighbouring municipality of Rovaniemi also gives the farm’s successor good opportunities to develop rural tourism.
The appeal of the area to visitors is further increased by the plans of the municipalities of Pello and Ylitornio to create a Miekojärvi – Arctic Circle national park in the region.
The location next to Sweden brings an international dimension and cost savings alike. In the farm’s established everyday routine this means significant savings when buying production inputs.
